Our experts discuss Ohio State’s 2023 football recruiting class

Welcome to National Signing Day (Part 1) for Ohio State!

For the sixth year in a row, college football programs will be able to sign prospects during an “early period” starting on Wednesday.

Ohio State – under third-year head coach Ryan Day – goes into Wednesday with 20 verbal commitments for the Class of 2023.

Day was announced as Urban Meyer‘s successor on Dec. 4, 2018. Despite the transition, Day held on to a 2019 recruiting class that ended up ranked 14th nationally and third in the Big Ten. His first full recruiting cycle in 2020 netted a class that was ranked fifth nationally and tops in the Big Ten. The 2021 class was ranked No. 2 nationally, trailing only Alabama in those rankings.

Last year’s class was ranked fourth overall and first in the Big Ten.

The Buckeyes have the No. 7-ranked class in the 247Sports Composite class rankings for 2023 going into the early period.

Of course, there will be major developments nationwide throughout this early period and on through the late signing day in February that could change those individual and team rankings.

Still, these figures to be Ohio State’s 12th top 10 class in a 13-year period. All seven of Urban Meyer’s classes between 2012-18 were top 10 classes.

Below, we have comments from Mark Porter of ScoutingOhio.com and Steve Wiltfong of 247Sports.com on OSU’s projected signees and remaining prospects.
