Everton U21s smash Colchester Utd in Premier League Cup

Everton U21s 7 – 2 Colchester Utd U21s

At the half-way stage in a rash of Premier League Cup games, Everton U21s were looking to turn things around as they sit at the bottom of Group F on just 1 point from three games. The game is on our YouTube Chanel tonight:

“It’s a big week for Everton’s youngsters, with the Under-21s and Under-18s both in action in games that will be streamed for absolutely free on our official YouTube channel.

On Tuesday evening, Paul Tait’s free-scoring Under-21s take on Colchester United in the Premier League Cup at Southport (7 pm GMT).”:

Thank goodness for some real football… Rather watch this than the corrupt VAR shambles that is the World Cup…

3-0 after 30 mins, Cannon, Kouyate and Hunt. Fairly routine this, it’s a poor Colchester defence.

Phill (3), how old is Kouyate? He looked lively when he came on against Mansfield for the last ten minutes, I thought it was a foul on the Colchester defender just before the ball was entered for him to score his second goal and make it 4-0 for the Blues.

The number 8 looks lively for Everton, never caught his name, I never have the sound turned on for these games.

Dave, Kouyate is 19, moved up from the u18s this season. He’s predominantly left footed as you saw!
No 8 is 17 year old Halid Djankpata,. Commentators are fine tonight, not the usual two!

Watching on YouTube it’s now 7-2, Kouyate got a hat-trick, Cannon got a brace.

Thanks Phil (5),

Kouyate was excellent tonight, apart from his goals what a pass for Everton’s sixth goal, right across the field, sixty yards, a player with plenty of pace as well.

A good result, although Colchester were not very good. I liked the effort of their number 10, he set a goal up but deserved one himself for skill and hard work and what a great goal Colchester scored near the end.

Now for the U18s to provide another win on Friday and start us on a good run in the FA Youth Cup, I might go to this instead of watching it on YouTube.

Not sure about the commentators, Phill, they always seem too biased towards the Blues and come up with a lot of very boring stuff that is not connected to the game going on, glad tonight’s were better.

I can’t comment about the whole game, Dave, I only found it on YouTube just before the fantastic cross-field pass you mentioned.

It looked cold in the empty stands though, kudos to the supporters who turned up to watch the game. They were treated to a goal fest though, including a great strike for Colchester’s second.

Funny watching a game like this after a World Cup match. The gulf in quality is absolutely immense.

Brilliant performance nevertheless by our young lads and some really impressive moments.

Why don’t they put U21s and Women’s games on as double headers at Goodison during the World Cup?

Answer; because it would require some creative thinking.

Peter C: Brilliant idea on the double header! One of the best ways for the parents to bring the kids to the stadium!

Glad to see the “younger lads” (the 18- & 19-year-olds) having some run (Heath, Djankpata, Butterfield) as part of the “Fast Tracking” approach put in place for the U-teams (the 16- & 17-year-olds playing for the U18s; the 18- & 19-year-olds playing the U21s).

Isaac Price, IMHO, needs to play at a higher level ASAP (League Two at the very least) as there is nothing further for him to gain at this level.

Link to entire game: link

Pretty good camera coverage for a U-21 game.

Cannon starting at 12:55
Kouyate starting at 29:45
Hunt starting at 39:46
Kouyate tap-in after nice pressure from the boys and Djankpata simply bullying his way to the ball starting at 59:25
Kouyate after nice sequence of play starting at 1:44:41
Cannon starting at 1:53:25
Price starting at 1:56:10

At this point, I expect to see a Cannon goal(s) every game. Opinions on Kouyate? He looks strong, fast, and skillful.

Just as an aside to this game, it is one Brent Stephens would have gone to see. He hasn’t posted for quite a bit, I hope you and your family are okay, drop a post in if you are. Best wishes, mate.

Dave, I was thinking the same thing, that Brent is usually live at these games. Hopefully he’s okay and we’ll hear from him soon.
